America is… Corporate Royalty

A couple of days ago, the leaders of the "Big 3" American automakers, swooped into Washington, D.C. with their hands out. Rick Wagoner (General Motors), Alan Mulally (Ford), and Robert Nardelli (Chrysler), all CEOs of the automakers, are asking the Federal Government to hand over a $25 Billion loan to keep their industry afloat.

This isn't about them. Well, it is; but it is more about corporate culture that permeates through this country for the wealthiest people in this country. These three men are just perfect, textbook examples of what makes America what it has been in recent history. America, especially in the last four years, has been about class warfare. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and there is no longer a "middle class". Is it any wonder John McCain couldn't say "middle class" on the campaign trail? He believes, rightfully so, that it doesn't exist any longer.

In the last couple of months, we have had corporations all over the country laying off workers, going bankrupt, reorganizing, and/or asking for bailouts from the Federal Government. "Give us money, or we will fail!" they say.

So the government stepped forward, and pushed up $700 Billion to give away to buy "bad assets". However, Treasury Secretary Paulson, who I believe has the job title of "Secretary of Having His Head Up His Ass", was given this money with a wide berth of authority. This was done so he could act quickly, and not have to go back to congress every time something was teetering. Instead of saving people from being kicked out of their homes, he gave this money to banks and other corporations. The theory, he said, was that by propping up these companies, they were going to free up credit so that everything could get flowing again. To date, corporations have taken the money, people continue to get foreclosed upon, and nothing appears to be improving in the slightest.

While Mr. Head Up His Ass tries to figure out what to do with this money, and which gigantic corporations deserve to leach off the taxpayer's dime the most, the corporate executives are continuing to enjoy the high life. AIG, which has had almost $100 Billion in bailouts, has continued to throw lavish conferences for the top executives, all in the guise of "necessary buisness".

Corporate heads are flying around in private jets, instead of taking commercial flights. Instead of having to deal with security lines like everyone else, they drive up (I'm sorry… are driven up) to the foot of their private plane, take off, land, and are picked up by another lavish road vehicle.

These people, the wealthiest Americans, have absolutely no idea of how real people live. It never even occurs to them that they should, god forbid, fly with other people. It doesn't occur to them to drive themselves, as opposed to being driven somewhere. It also doesn't occur to them that, if your company loses billions of dollars every year, that you should not be entitled to tens of millions of dollars in compensation from that company. These executives are running their countries into the ground, firing people left and right, and the CEOs do not take pay cuts.

Let's do the math here. Let's say the average CEO has a total compensation package of $10 Million. If this one person went down to a salary of $1 Million, you could employ more than 150 people at a middle class salary with full benefits with the difference, and pay those people a good, living wage. (Not decent, living. There is a difference. Decent is how it is defined by the person who is defining it; Living is defined by the cost of actual living.) This jag-off is still making more than just about everyone, would still be able to afford a great lifestyle, and might only have to make a few changes in the way things are done.

You have those in the country who claim that even espousing these kinds of beliefs are socialism. They say that if a company is willing to pay the CEO $10 Million, then they should have that right, as they have the right to run their companies the way they want. Sure they do… as long as they aren't destroying our economy by firing workers in favor of executives, and then turning around and asking for a federal bailout to save their hides, instead of fixing broken business models.

Every American deserves to be able to work, and deserves a living wage. Concentrating the wealth into a select few people is not good for America, not good for the economy, and not good for the world. Every American deserves healthcare; no one should not be able to go to the doctor because they can not afford it.

Here is the reality. Wealth is concentrated into a select few people, and those people control the process to wealth. For the last eight years, reduced oversight over companies has created a black hole in which all of the country's money has gone. A startling statistic: as of today, we are in a spot where the last eleven years never happened, financially. Everything we had improved on in the Clinton years has been erased by one fake redneck blue blood and his cronies, in favor of the wealthiest of the wealthy. The wealthy that continue to flaunt their wealth in front of us, while still having their hand out for a bailout.

Here is the message to the "Big 3" CEOs of the automotive industry; fly Delta, you jackasses. It won't kill you, and maybe, just maybe, you'll understand what it is like to be a real American when you have to rip apart every item you own in a security line in 30 second or less, shove it all through a X-Ray machine, and have a magnetic wand shoved up your ass looking for explosives, despite the fact that you have been through the same airport hundreds of times with the same TSA staff. They are just doing their jobs, after all. So am I, and so should you. Make your companies succeed on their own merits, or don't get your corporate bonuses. Let's stop rewarding failure for these mega-rich idiots running their companies into the ground, and support the average American who is struggling, going to lose their home and job, and can't support their families.

Greed, corruption, and scandal make up our economy. Let's move away from that, and to hard work and dedication being rewarded with a living wage that allows the middle class to live like the middle class again.

And that, my friends, defines why America is… Corporate Royalty.
